My before admitting my problem in my early 20’s (back then it wasn't manly to admit you had a drinking problem). As a teen my world was also filled with other young boys in a culture of booze, drugs and bravado.

What I can say to Emile is surround yourself with supportive people, your true friends will stand with you and support you, and the ones who feel threatened by you or don't support you were never really your friends to begin with.

I applaud the Flames too for not simply cutting or trading away a problem player, instead realizing this player is a person. I know hockey is a business but I think the Flames will benefit as much as Emile has by doing the right thing.

Remember: I can’t do anything about anybody else, I can only change myself; I know that now – other wises known as the Serenity Prayer

Good Luck Emile, It’s all uphill from here!
LifesBetterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05518103638695159885noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6422944892527683969.post-32897168623399857922017-07-06T13:38:39.663-06:002017-07-06T13:38:39.663-06:00This story illustrates so many good things. Second, that the Flames organization made a similar step up to help him and to stand by him. And I echo the comment made by another that Big Ern, an example of courage and character in his own right, has a role, a calling in assisting players in their struggles with addictions, with mental illness, with the coincident challenges of 'growing up' in the hockey and real worlds. Kudos all around.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6422944892527683969.post-14008978634534623202017-07-06T07:03:43.447-06:002017-07-06T07:03:43.447-06:00Unfortunately many young people (older as well) su...Unfortunately many young people (older as well) suffer from alcoholism. As a teacher I have seen it in my high school students and it is frequently part of the male image. Some out grow it( I for one drank quite heavily as a teen and into my twenties) fortunately I now can have a drink on occasion and not let it control me. Many young athletes and from my experience young hockey players find alcohol as part of the culture. The Flames should hire Big Ern as part of there management team to help all of their players deal with these and other addiction issues. Good luck to young Emile and all those who struggle with addictions. Praying for them all.
DPGAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6422944892527683969.post-24926572428973565952017-07-05T19:53:43.585-06:002017-07-05T19:53:43.585-06:00Awesome stuff ✊Awesome stuff ✊Jordan Bnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6422944892527683969.post-22844166342756642842017-07-05T19:29:48.295-06:002017-07-05T19:29:48.295-06:00Excellent article Darren, far better than the Flam...Excellent article Darren, far better than the Flames web page article.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12544565335162238584noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6422944892527683969.post-81591112757794791732017-07-05T19:22:18.099-06:002017-07-05T19:22:18.099-06:00Now that this out in the open; Emile's healing...Now that this out in the open; Emile's healing can really move forward. No more fans whispering about it. He has the support of his organization, friends, family and the fans. Many of us will be praying for him and his support team, even if he does not turn the corner as a player this is good news for the young man. Personally I hope he re-discovers his game as he could play throughout the line up. Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
